the book
The book is divided into five parts, which are summarised below:-Part I- ‘What Are We and What is Our Purpose?’ This explains the derivation of freedom of choice and claims that as we evolve spiritually we tend to make positive choices for universal benefit. It then describes the journey of our soul through many lifetimes and realities: in essence we are light beings who need to absorb light into our energy bodies and auras in order to be strong and healthy and to realise our full potential of God realisation.
Part II –Our Relationship with the Universe and the Divine Sometimes, during the history of mankind, exceptional spiritual beings have incarnated as exemplars, whose teachings have been very similar and have led to the formation of religions, such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. Unfortunately both leaders and followers have tended to focus on differences between their religion and others rather than their similarities; claiming that theirs is the only route to God. For example, Christians have been told that Jesus was the only son of God; the Jews believe that they are the chosen people and many Muslims believe that infidels are their enemies. In other words, there is a focus on separation instead of the togetherness, which is the essence of all great spiritual teachings.
The teachings of Jesus are highlighted, as he was a well travelled man who had experience of many religions including, Buddhism, Brahmanism, Hinduism and Parsism. Bearing in mind also that he was Jewish, that the Christian religion was formed around his life and that he became a prophet of Islam, surely his true teachings provide the best possible guide to the spiritual transformation of society.
It is suggested that orthodox Christianity, which was fabricated both during and after the Council of Nicea in 325AD, misrepresents both the life and teachings of Jesus. Instead, we should study a number of ancient manuscripts, such as The Gospel of Thomas and the Essene gospels, translated from the Aramaic, to understand the true philosophy of Jesus, which is explained by reference to the Beatitudes and The Lord’s Prayer.
Part III-Pathways to Enlightenment-Explains our relationship with God, which is universal consciousness existing both inside and outside all life on earth. It describes two routes to enlightenment: firstly that of the ascetic who devotes his whole life to this quest, utilising the science of yoga; which in its broadest sense, encompasses all other methods. Secondly, it describes the route appropriate for the majority of people who live conventional lives in society utilising various types of meditation, which opens all doors to the divine.
Part IV-The Spiritual Evolution of Society-Purports that the main reason for the devastation of our planet is that our way of life conflicts with the cosmic and natural laws of Love, Freedom, Cause and Effect, Balance and Karma. It criticises most democracies, arguing that many global societies are governed by autocrats and bureaucrats, disguised as democrats. It then analyses the issue of climate change and suggests that this trend will be reversed as we learn how to live in harmony with nature. The next chapter suggests that instead of relying solely on the medical profession and pharmaceutical industry, we should accept responsibility for our own health and wellbeing. The final chapter proposes that the reversal of planetary negativity will arise from a form of education based on universal love; the aim of teachers being to educate our children not only at an academic level, but to incorporate the highest possible level of spiritual understanding. Ultimately, this will bring about a scenario in which leadership roles in society will be undertaken by spiritually evolved people.
Part V-Complementary Articles-These articles have been especially written for my book by practitioners of various complementary therapies and people involved in other spiritual and democratic pursuits. This provides much greater depth than I could draw from my own experiences. All references to men and mankind in this book apply equally to men and women.
