Journey To Perfection

introduction

I have been deeply interested in spiritual philosophy for many years, avidly studying the writings and teachings of some of the world’s great masters and in the process undoubtedly expanding my inner awareness of life itself. Most importantly of all I have realised that our bodies’ function is to be host to the soul throughout its sojourn on planet earth. In addition to assimilating the wise words of these masters, I have had to find my own pathway through life and as I progressed, I became only too well aware of the great inequalities which existed, and indeed which still do exist today; of the great importance placed upon material possessions, wealth and social standing, and of the lack of purpose and direction which prevails in our global society.

I became interested in politics in general, and of community politics in particular giving me a greater insight into the workings of society at large. My major realisation was that there is something very wrong with our ‘democratic’ way of life, and that far from it being democratic it tends to be ‘autocratic’, the people having minimal influence over factors affecting their lives. I realised that the ‘something’ which was missing throughout all of this was the spiritual aspect which seemed to be almost completely absent from any decision-making at a higher level, and indeed in all walks of life.

These issues have troubled me greatly for a very long time, and to this end I have decided to put my thoughts onto paper, by writing this book addressing these adverse situations and offering corresponding solutions. I would ask you to have an open mind when reading this book, and whenever possible to effect a change for the better in yourself and so also change the world. To quote Mahatma Gandhi, “We have to become the change that we want to see in the world”.

This book carries a message of hope for all mankind that the negativity, which is infecting our global society, can be transformed by individual spiritual growth, which will have a cumulative effect: the whole is the sum of the individual parts and as each one of us embarks on our own journey to perfection there will be a corresponding expansion of global consciousness, which will ultimately lead to peace on earth.

Our leaders and representatives in governments, commerce and religions have tended to build centralised, top down structures, which have disempowered the majority of the people. This has caused frustration and resulted in negativity in society, such as violence, substance abuse and anti-social behaviour. Instead of being dominated in a top down manner, society can evolve spiritually from the bottom upwards, which in democratic terms will lead to Abraham Lincoln’s ideal of ‘rule of the people by the people for the people’.
